Geology & Glaciology Presenter
You may also see Sofia in the following role(s): Expedition Guide

Sofia was born and raised in the mainland of Sweden between fields and forests. This is where she found a love for nature and wildlife as a child, especially for dogs. After some years in Sweden this enthusiasm for nature brought her to Norway in 2013 to work as a ski instructor. Sofia have lived in Norway ever since.

Norway's spectacular landscape and interesting geology got Sofia into geoscience studies at the University of Oslo. She holds a bachelor’s degree in physical geography and a master’s degree in environmental geoscience. She defended her master thesis and moved to Svalbard in 2021. The pursuit to be closer to nature lead her to start a study called “Arctic Nature Guide” (ANG) in Svalbard. This study focuses on the guiding and values behind tourism in the Polar Regions. After defending her master’s thesis, she celebrated on the shooting range, practicing polar bear protection.

The love for animals, especially dogs also found it’s place on Svalbard where she worked as a dog musher and Sofia could finally live out her childhood dream by almost living with a wolf pack. Sofia has been on several expeditions and trips by foot, on skis and dogsledding, both in Svalbard and the Norwegian mainland. To her there is nothing better than sitting by a bonfire with a cup of coffee and enjoying a beautiful view.

Sofia loves watching polar guests enjoy, embrace, and respect the spectacular but fragile polar nature and wildlife!
